Um, do you know that I’ve coached hundreds of women since I started offering dream career guidance in 2008? And that these women are freakin’ rock stars, leaving soul-sucking jobs and traveling the world and launching creative, grown-up businesses and simply doing work that fits their lifestyle goals? Well ya do now – and you’ll hear their stories firsthand in my Client Case Studies series! Can I just girl crush it harder than Rebecca Morgan? No. No I cannot. We worked together one-on-one 3.5 years ago, and I’ve been so proudcited to see her go from a not-so-happy Training Manager at a “dream company” to her own dream business. The cherry on top is that her business helps people bring more of their awesome into their work! I love my job.
Why did you decide to work with me?
I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH ME
I had a magical career, one people dream of. I had 12 unique careers with one company that gave me exposure to a lot of different people and projects and took me to Florida, Shanghai, Hawaii and California. This was hard to say but it wasn’t enough. I dreamed of doing my own thing. Creating, supporting, and working how I wanted to. I thought something was wrong with me for wanting to give up what I had.
I listen to podcasts and I kept hearing references to Entrepreneur on Fire. I finally got around to checking it out and there are THOUSANDS of episodes! Where to even start?
I scrolled the list and picked one based off of the title. Hippie Dippie All The Way To Success With Michelle Ward. That was my first introduction to you and I was immediately in love. Your energy, optimism, and honesty.
In that interview you shared the book Renaissance Soul by Margaret Lobenstine. I went out the next day picked up the book and learned nothing was wrong with me! After all the nuggets of goodness you shared, I was like FINALLY someone who understands me and what I’m struggling with. I had to work with you to help me bring my dream business to life.
What were you doing work-wise when we started working together – and what are you doing now?
I just relocated from 4.5 years of living and working in Shanghai to Hawaii. I vowed this was my last corporate job and the next move I make was working for myself. I wasn’t too sure how to take my bundle of experience and skills I had and translate that into a business. I needed help and would get up at 4am (time difference) for our sessions and together we figured it out.
Now, I’m a Human Relations Strategist and I believe engaging with the hearts and minds of people is the way to be and I’m not afraid to proclaim it.
My uncompromising/non-negotiable values in business and life are to connect and care about people.
My business is called Choose Awesome Coaching and I work with people who want to be a better leader and have a better business through being human.
Here’s how I’m currently supporting people:
- Read Me Resumes & career coaching
- Be an Awesome Boss Leadership and Human Skills Coaching
- Awesome Business support to help you conquer the hearts, minds, and wallets.
What was your biggest takeaway from our work together?
From us working together my biggest takeaway was confidence that it is possible for me to own my own business. You helped me make a plan, commit to the plan through action, and challenged me when I wanted to stop and go back to my comfy coma of what I knew.
Think of someone who is currently in the shoes you wore when we first started working together. What advice do you have for her?
Stop overthinking everything. Take action to move your business forward even if it’s just baby steps. When it feels uncomfy, you don’t feel like it, it hurts– keep at it. Push through and continue to show up every day. It’s like going to the gym. You don’t see results the first time you go (if only!) You have to keep showing up, and in time, your pants fit better! Same with your business—one blog post, one social media push isn’t going to do it, but stick to it. Keep showing up and you’ll start to see results. It’s magic!
Is there anything that’s been a game-changer for you when it comes to your business that you can share? We’d love a good resource or a mindset/productivity tip!
The game-changer for me (as you promised it would be) was getting my first paid client. Now I know why businesses frame money and put it on the wall! When someone gives you money for your product or service you are legit. We called it an introductory offer and it wasn’t even close to what I charge now but it got me started. It moved me from doing busy work in the name of “building my business” to actual work with a real client. It built my confidence and I learned so much from that first client. Focus on getting that first client and let the fun begin.
What’s on the horizon for your business? We’d love to hear about any upcoming offerings or goals!
I’m working on a leadership development experience called School of Boss. It’s focused on the actual real problems of being a leader and gives people the confidence and competence to be a boss that people choose to follow.
