Is planning to quit your job worth $2.99? (An Effective Escape is on Amazon AND on super sale ’til Tuesday!)

Screen Shot 2013-11-21 at 7.53.44 PM

This year, I’m especially thankful for doing work I love, the “ease” of being a Woman of the World (aka full-time entrepreneur) in the 21st century, and you.

So, when I started brainstorming a few months ago as to what I wanted to share as a Black Friday/Cyber Monday offering, it came back to the definitive how-to-plan-to-leave-your-day-job-without-having-to-live-on-Ramen-noodles guide I wrote in honor of my 2nd entrepreneuriversary.

More than anything, I want the things that I’m grateful for today to be the things you’re grateful for on Thanksgiving 2014.

I want you to not only believe that you can love what you do, but to craft a plan on how to do it based on your own grown-up values, needs, and preferences.

That’s why I’ve re-released An Effective Escape: Leaving Your Day Job Without Living In Your Parent’s Basement on Amazon, and offering it for a super low price ($2.99!

Getting you the stories you need to hear

Make Your Life a Story Worth Telling by Quotable Life on Etsy

Earlier this week I revived an old blog series of mine, The Recession is Bullhonkey, and I plan on bringing one of these stories to you every month in 2014.

As I start planning for next year, I’m feeling more and more like it’s uber-important to get you real-life examples of people who’ve discovered/are working towards/are being successful in their passionate, grown-up careers.

I know everyone who’s figuring it out/in the process of making it happen will benefit from stories like Denise’s and Rachel‘s (and Gaia’s and Mark’s and Maggie’s and….I’ll stop myself here).

I feel like spreading these stories is so key to actually having us believe that we can actually make a living loving what we do – and that’s the all important first step.

Rachel Winard’s Grown Up Gigs recording is now available!

I was such a fangirl of Rachel‘s pre-Grown Up Gigs, but now, I’m head-over-heels impressed with this grounded, heart-centric, slow-and-steady-wins-the-race business woman who just so happens to be behind the best deodorant on the planet.

From our hour-long chat, I learned that Rachel…

…was a Juilliard-trained violinist who didn’t like the business of music, and had to figure out what was next…
…killed it on the LSATs and became a lawyer
…was told by her doctor that it was “your job or your health” - and she picked the latter…
…took a year and a half to turn her “baby” (aka the natural products she was making her herself, her friends and her family) into a business…
…has the clearest mission statement I think I’ve ever heard…
…only makes business decisions by listening to her gut (even if it takes a while)
…has never spent a day in the red in her business
…has only gotten wholesale orders and press via word of mouth - and we’re talking Elle, NY Times Magazine, Daily Candy, Vogue, etc
personally writes every thank you note that goes in each order…
…who set out to make “slow and progressive” growth as a goal…

…ugh, I can go on and on.

The People & Platforms That Help Me Do It All: Version 3!

l’ve been noticing that I’ve been getting lots of Who Do You Work With And What Do They Do For You questions coming my way via email, Facebook, Twitter, and face-to-face…and when I went to point ‘em to my People Who Help Me Do It All: Updated! post, I saw that it’s a year and a half old! That’s so no bueno.

So, here’s an overdue review of both the people and the platforms that currently help me do it all. It’s gonna be epic: you have been warned!

The People

When she arrived: She joined me in August 2011 as my Virtual Wizard and a real Jill-Of-All-Trades.

How I found her: I stole her! Kinda. We were coaching together and I knew she was planning to leave her full-time job and wanted a super part-time gig while maybe-kinda-sorta considering being a coach.

Meet the owner of a brick-and-mortar retail shop, Gaia DiLoreto, on Grown Up Gigs!

I met Gaia DiLoreto just a couple weeks ago and knew I had to get her in my Grown Up Gigs clutches.

In her previous life she was “a corporate finance robot” who hightailed it to culinary school and realized she no longer wanted to be a chef. Instead, she dreamed of a shop that only sells Brooklyn-made products, and she made it happen – sans loans, sugar daddies or trust funds – in just 9 months.

By Brooklyn is going into its 3rd year in business. Whadda milestone!

Come join us tomorrow, October 8th, at 10a Eastern right here. You can also watch on my Facebook and Grown Up Gigs page directly! So fancy.

Can’t. Freakin’. Wait!
