Tough (Question) Tuesday: What’s your very next step?

Think Big & Keep Moving With Small Steps by Talking Eye Charts

Sometimes we get caught up in The Big Stuff.

The Business Plan.

The Overseas Trip.

The Book Launch.

Often, though, those are weeks or months or – dare I say it – even years away. Prioritizing and focusing is all about knowing what is most urgent, and allowing yourself to chill about the stuff that you know needs to happen eventually (but not now/soon).

With that in mind, I asked my Facebook fans that question, and here were there responses:

As for me, my very next step is to finish writing this post :) After that, it’s to PDF an exercise I’m giving to my newsletter peeps on Tuesday afternoon. One foot in front of the other.

Now, what’s your very next step? I wanna hear it in the comments!

Get that weekly post done- it's a challenge!

is it a bad sign if I have too many next steps? (I suspect it is…bad procrastinator me)
    - revamp my blog
    - practice & understand photography
    - make project outline
    - putting physical projects pile into order
    - get work table
    - get needed reference books

It isn't bad, per se…it's all about how motivating it is for you to have 1 (or 2 or 3 – but not more than 4!) project that keeps moving forward forward forward at more of a clip, than having 6 projects all moving along slowly, ya know?

And I hate to say it, but only about half of these are measurable. "Revamp my blog" isn't really a step – it's a project :) What's the next/first thing you need to do in order to revamp your blog? See where I'm going with this? :)

I seem to be taking a lot of big, scary, leaps lately. I think my next step might just be a baby one – finish the tutorial I started yesterday. Ahh….. Now that's doable. It's so much easier when you think of things one step at a time, isn't it?

  4. Natasha says:

Decide if I'm going to the farmers' market or not today.

If yes, my next step after that will be to make some room in the fridge. If no, my next step after that will be to write a blog post.

In other projects, my very next step is to ask my best friends about some database stuff. And to finish cleaning off my desk.

Any one of these next steps would be an appropriate "very next step" to take to forward something. But the next one I shall take is deciding about the farmers market. (If I go to the farmers' market, my next step once I'm there is to discuss if 3 gallon bags full of peach halves in the fridge is enough for me. Plus 5lbs of peach puree. I have a problem.)

    • WhenIGroUpCoach says:

You have a peach problem? No such thing! :)

      • Natasha says:

Oh, my standmixer disagrees with you. Ask how many pounds of peach puree I *could* have had in the freezer, if I hadn't dumped half the first batch…

Also, just so we know, I did not go to the market. I did write a blog post. I did ask my friend about database stuff. And I did finish clearing off my desk.

So why is the next step still, somehow, write a blog post? ;)

  5. Vanessa says:

Like Suzanne, I'm working on some website beautification, which is a lot of fun! Also, connecting more with my Twitter community is on my radar.

    • WhenIGroUpCoach says:

Sweet! Anything in particular/specific that'll beautify your site and/or connect with your tweeple (i.e. make a mood board for the site, spend 15 minutes on my Twitter home page replying to peeps…)

  6. Marthe says:

My very next step is to finish writing up my contracts for several new clients. Should have been done yesterday, but there's not day like today! ;)

    • WhenIGroUpCoach says:

Shoulda woulda coulda :) Good for you for not beating yourself up over something that might be a day late, Marthe!

  7. Drew Tewell says:

My next step is connecting with wonderful bloggers like you. Then writing a great post for my blog to go out tomorrow. Have a great day!

  8. Kristin says:

My very next step is to use this post as inspiration and make a move out of hiding on my blog!
